Assad, Apartheid and Israel

Assad, Apartheid and Israel
Recent history tells us that Israel was once the closest ally to the Apartheid South African regime but, in the early 1980s, it turned against it under the influence of the Zionist lobby in the United States when the tide changed internationally against the Apartheid; and Nelson Mandela became the legend of the century. The Assad regime had not allowed the development of any phenomenon like Nelson Mandela to grow in Syria or even have a chance to exist. Assad’s prisoners either die in jail or come out deformed; Salah Jadid and Riad al-Turk are cases in point.

Historically in the United States, there is an implicit relationship between blacks and Jews. That dictated a change in the Zionist lobby’s position which resulted in exercising pressure on the US and other countries to change their stances towards the Apartheid regime and as such the man with 26 years in jail turned into a world hero, and Apartheid evaporated.

This thing is not happening in Syria, because the Assad regime has done services to Israel for the past forty years the Zionist lobby is aware of. The Zionist lobby markets the Assad regime’s propaganda in the US and the world and as Israel loves to see Syria weak and fragmented. This explains why Syria’s war is dragging on and on.

Israel and its world lobbying power have used the US, Russia and others to make the Assad regime live up to its threat to Syrians: rule Syria or ruin it. It did not do that in South Africa despite the Apartheid system.

The whole comparison above seems to be weird; however, it touches upon a point not touched before. If Israel wants the Syrian tragedy to stop, it will. For the first time greed must be blinding Israel. The gains out of the Syrian devastation are unprecedented in Israel’s history. For the first time, Israel proves that it is short-sighted. In the short run, Israel is gaining a lot; but in the long one Israel has developed a never forgiving or forgetting memory.

Abba Eban, an Israeli politician, was asked one day about negotiating with the Palestinians, when they (the Israelis) are much stronger than them and they can defeat them very easily. Eban answered: “We know that, but we do not know how things would develop fifty years from now. Our talk with them would work on the present and future memories.” And it is somehow working.

Israel has planted these seeds now in the minds of Syrians who are endowed with a special understanding of history. They will sure remember. Although they do not have a Nelson Mandela, but they have a brutal regime that has exceeded Apartheid in its brutality and surpassed Hitler’s Nazism. More than anything else, Israelis should be a little bit humble in talking about the Holocaust, when it is to be compared with the Syrian one. Many consider such an Israeli commodity these days to be not quite easily marketable. It is high time for them to come to their minds and stop this greed. Every Syrian child is a Mandela. The Syrian Apartheid is doomed. What Israel is doing in Syria will not be forgotten.
