Landmine kills civilian in Deir ez-Zoor

An explosion ripped through Deir ez-Zoor countryside on Thursday (January 16), killing a civilian, local social media reported.

Mamoun Nouri al-Omar was killed when a landmine exploded on the main road in Abu Hardub town in Deir ez-Zoor countryside, Deir ez-Zoor 24 reported.

Earlier this month, a civilian was killed when a landmine exploded in Roz Shammar village in Raqqa countryside.

Demining former ISIS strongholds continues to be a major challenge in areas liberated from the group.

Hundreds of civilians have been killed and wounded in landmine explosions across Syria since the beginning of the year.
