Explosions echo and smoke billows out from Syria's Ras al Ain
Explosions were heard and smoke was seen billowing out from the Syrian border town of Ras al Ain on Thursday morning (October 10) as Turkey targetted Kurdish militia in a long-threatened offensive.

The part of the border that US forces vacated this week, a nearly 100-km (62-mile) stretch between the Syrian towns of Tel Abyad and Ras al-Ain, is now under attack. Turkey began pounding the region with air strikes and artillery on Wednesday (October 9).

Thousands of people fled Ras al Ain towards Hasaka province, held by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The Turkish air strikes killed at least five civilians and three fighters from the SDF and wounded dozens of civilians, the SDF said.
