Russia says Assad regime will stop killings on Saturday in Idlib
A new announcement of halting airstrikes that have killed, injured and displaced hundreds of thousands of Syrians was announced Friday and it would come into force on Saturday (August 31), Sputnik reported.

The new announcement came through "the Russian Defence Ministry's Center for the Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria". The center also called on the leaders of armed groups operating in Idlib to stop staging "provocations" and to join the "peace process" instead.

The killing of civilians in northwestern Syria has intensified over the last several weeks, despite the recent ceasefire agreed during talks in the Kazakh capital of Nur-Sultan in early August.

On August 5, the Assad army broke the so-called truce and its militias launched an offensive capturing news cities and towns from the opposition.
