Assad-Russian bombardment displaces thousands in Hama countryside
Thousands of civilians were forcibly displaced from Hama northern countryside as Russian warplanes and Assad regime continues its bombing campaign of the opposition held areas, Orient correspondents said.

More than 95% of the civilians have left Kafr Nabudah is a village and Al-Hawweeja village towards safer opposition held areas in northern Syria, and towards the towns and camps near the Syrian-Turkish borders, Orient correspondent added.

Russian warplanes and Assad militias targeted this week civilian homes within the demilitarized zone of Hama countryside and Idlib countryside with hundreds of barrel bombs and rockets, destroying civilian homes, schools, bakeries and hospitals.

Schools, health facilities and residential areas have been hit, United Nations regional humanitarian coordinator Panos Moumtzis told Reuters on Thursday. “The barrel bombing is the worst we have seen for at least 15 months.”

He added that 300,000 people live in the buffer zone where there are hostilities.

Earlier this week, the United States warned violence in the buffer zone “will result in the destabilisation of the region”.

Idlib and Hama countryside are within the de-escalation zone reached by Russia and Turkey last September. Russian warplanes and Assad militiamen have killed hundreds of Syrians since the de-escalation deal reached.

The Syrian Network For Human Rights (SNHR) said that nearly 670,000 Syrian citizens were subjected to forced displacement in 2018, including 134,000 who were forcibly displaced as a result of agreements and truces which contravene international humanitarian law.
