An explosion ripped through Deir-ez-Zor countryside on Friday (April 19), killing a civilian, local social media reported.

Said Ali Al-Fahiji was killed when a landmine exploded while herding sheep in Kasiba village near the Syrian-Iraqi border, Euphrates Post reported.

Last week, several landmines exploded in al-Shaafah town and Abu Kamal city in Deir-ez-Zor countryside, killing at least six civilians, including a child.

Last month, 16 people lost their lives as they drove over a landmine in the Shawla desert in Deir-ez-Zor.

ISIS often plants mines to slow opponents.

Demining former ISIS strongholds continues to be a major challenge in areas liberated from the group.
