Erdogan: Turkey to solve Syria issue after elections
Turkey will solve the Syria issue on the field as the first thing after the March 31 local elections, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Saturday (March 30).

Speaking at an election rally in Istanbul's Kagıthane district, Erdogan said Turkey will not allow a "terror corridor" to be formed along the country's southern borders.

The president noted that Turkey will take direct action to solve the matter, rather than just sit at the table and address the issue through talks.

“We have taught the necessary lesson to those who tried to do that and we will do the same to them in the future,” he added.

Meanwhile, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar inaugurated the "Joint Operations Center" on the zero point of Turkey's border with Syria

The center would manage a possible military operation against members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) east of the Euphrates in Syria.

A possible mission east of the Euphrates, which Turkey’s leadership has been suggesting for months, would follow two successful cross-border Turkish operations into Syria since 2016 – Operation Euphrates Shield and Operation Olive Branch – both meant to eradicate the presence of YPG/PKK and ISIS near Turkey’s borders.
