SNHR: 7,000 civilians killed in Syria in 2018
The Syrian Network For Human Rights (SNHR) said on Wednesday (January 2) that thousands of civilians were killed in Syria in 2018 by the Assad militia and its allies.

SNHR announced that at least 6,964 civilians were killed in 2018 by the parties to the conflict in Syria, including 108 in December.

SNHR said the victims included 1,436 children and 1,361 women. 

Assad regime militias were responsible for the killing of 4,162 civilians, including 713 children and 799 women last year, SNHR added.

Russian forces, which provide air support to the Assad regime, was responsible for the death of 467 civilians, including 169 children and 118 women, it added. 

A total of 417 civilians were killed in US-led coalition airstrikes last year, including 175 children and 118 women, SNHR added. 

The report calls on the European Union and the USA to support the International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism that was established in accordance with General Assembly Resolution 71/248, formally adopted on December 21, 2016, and to establish local tribunals that enjoy universal jurisdiction to address the war crimes perpetrated in Syria.
