Protesters on Champs Elysees attack policemen

A French policeman pulled his gun out and pointed it at a crowd of protesters on Saturday (December 22) night, as yellow vests demonstrators took to Paris's Champs Elysees avenue, though there were fewer of them present than in the previous weeks.

A video filmed by an independent journalist showed a policeman taking out his gun as another tried to lift his motorcycle off the ground while a crowd of protesters came towards him.

In the French capital, the police arrested 109 protesters, seven of whom were held in custody.

Three weeks ago the protests in Paris turned into some of the worst unrest seen in the capital since the student-led civil unrest of 1968. Cars were set on fire, bank and insurance offices' windows smashed and street furniture was vandalised.
