Israel said it had launched an operation to "expose and thwart" cross-border attack tunnels from Lebanon dug by Iran-backed Hezbollah and Israel’s prime minister said they were intended for attacks.
On Tuesday (December 4) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the tunnels were "built by Hezbollah with the direct support and funding from Iran", calling it an "unacceptable act of wanton aggression".
Israeli army released video footage of heavy earth-moving equipment at work in unidentified locations, carrying out what it said were "tactical preparations to expose Hezbollah offensive cross-border tunnel project".
Israeli army spokesman showed a video during a news conference of what he said were Hezbollah operatives approaching a camera inside the tunnel, followed by a small explosive charge which scared them away.
