34 dialysis patients under death threat in Idlib’s Jisr al-Shughur
The lives of kidney patients are endangered due to the decreasing support for kidney dialysis department in al-Rahma hospital in Idlib countryside, Orient news’ Hashem al-Abdullah says.

Muhammed travels 20 kilometres for two kidney sessions every week at the Al-Rahma hospital. He is afraid the two sessions may be reduced to one session every week or even the cancellation of the treatment.

“I am unable to buy the necessary medical supplies for kidney dialysis because I am sick and I cannot work,” Ahmad told Orient.

“Two weeks ago, patients were told that the materials needed for the sessions are about to be exhausted, Othman, another patient,” told Orient, “there is no other nearby center,” he added.

He urged all NGOs, INGOs, UN agencies and international humanitarian organizations to exert their utmost efforts to secure the medicines needed for dialysis before kidney patients die.

There are six dialysis machines for 34 patients at this center which is the only one in Jisr al-Shughur city in the Idlib countryside.

Patients are unable to afford the weekly cost of kidney dialysis which is estimated at $50 a month, according to Orient correspondent.

“WHO stopped support for dialysis sessions in all centers three months ago,” a doctor in al-Rahma hospital says.
