Assad helicopters drop barrel bombs on Idlib countryside
Assad militias shelled on Friday (August 10) towns and villages in Idlib countryside, killing and injuring civilians.

Assad regime helicopters dropped barrel bombs on Khan Shaykhun town in Maarrat al-Numan, killing a civilian and injuring several others including children, Orient correspondent said.

White Helmets teams worked to retrieve the victim and transfer the wounded to medical points.

Assad helicopters also dropped more than 30 barrel bombs on Al-Tamanah town in Maarrat al-Numan, causing severe damage, Orient correspondent added.

UN humanitarian adviser Jan Egeland said on Thursday that Russia, Iran and Turkey told a meeting of the Syria humanitarian taskforce that they would do their utmost to avoid a battle that would threaten millions of civilians in opposition-held Idlib.

He estimated that there were 4 million or more people in the potential battleground in northwest Syria and he hoped diplomats and military envoys could reach a deal to avoid a bloodbath.
