As a humanitarian aid convoy entered Douma city in besieged eastern Ghouta today (Mar. 9), Assad militias, backed by Russian air force, resumed shelling, destroying houses over heads of civilians.
Orient News correspondent said 5 civilians were killed in Jisreen as airstrikes targeted the residential areas of the town.
Heavy bombardment also hit Mesraba town and Douma city, according to our correspondent who confirmed that families are under the rubble in the two areas, but heavy shelling prevented rescue teams from reaching them.
The United Nations resident coordinator in Syria, Ali al-Za’tari, said on Friday that shelling near Douma in eastern Ghouta was putting an aid convoy at risk and called for a ceasefire to allow in supplies.
The shelling came "despite assurances of safety from parties including the Russian Federation", Za’tari added.
The onslaught in eastern Ghouta has killed more than 1,000 people, the medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) said on Thursday (Mar. 8).
