Israel targets position in Quneitra, Assad shells fall in Golan
The Israeli Army targeted on Thursday (19 October) an Assad militia’s position in the Quneitra countryside to the south of Syria.

Orient News’s correspondent, reporting from the Quneitra countryside, said, “Israeli military units targeted an Assad military’s post in Sindyana, only one kilometre to south of Harafa area. The attack resulted in destroying an Assad 130 artillery gun, no casualties were reported”.

On the other side, the Israeli newspaper, Haaretz, reported the Israel Defense Forces their saying that a projectile struck an open field on the Golan Heights on Thursday in an apparent case of spillover fire from the fighting in Syria.

It was not immediately clear whether the projectile was a rocket or a mortar shell.

The Israeli Army said the projectile landed in the northern Golan Heights and soldiers were searching for the debris.

No siren was sounded as the warning system detected the projectile would land in an uninhabited area.

The spillover came after Israeli jets bombed an anti-aircraft battery near Damascus earlier in the week which had fired on an Israeli plane.

On his side, Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman said Israel had “all the tools needed to deal” with the challenge of Iran in Syria.

“The Iranians are trying to take control of Syria to become the dominant power there,” he said.

Also Wednesday, Iran’s military chief of staff warned that Tehran would not tolerate violations of what je called the “Syrian sovereignty” by Israel.
