Comey 'stunned' by Trump's request to drop Flynn probe
Former FBI director told US lawmakers in the most eagerly anticipated US congressional hearing in years  on Thursday (June 8) that the Trump administration had told lies and defamed him and the FBI after the president fired him on May 9.

Comey testified that he kept notes after meeting with then president-elect Trump on January 6 and subsequent meetings after that because "I was honestly concerned that he might lie about the nature of our meeting, and so I thought it really important to document."

"I knew that there might come a day when I would need a record of what had happened, not just to defend myself, but to defend the FBI and and our integrity as an institution and the independence of our investigative function," Comey said on Thursday (June 8).

Asked whether Trump was the only president whose meetings he documented, Comey replied,"that's right," adding he had not felt the need to take memos during his conversations with former presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

"That's what made this so difficult- it was a combination of circumstances, subject matter and the particular person," Comey said.
