Opposition fighters to link Syrian Desert to al-Qalamoun
Opposition fighters continue to advance in eastern al-Qalamoon area in Damascus countryside, getting closer to breaking the Assad siege on the area and connecting Badiyat ash-Sham (Syrian Desert) with al-Qalamoon.

Activists reported that opposition fighters liberated several areas located between eastern al-Qalamoon and Tadmor’s al-Badya, leaving only a few kilometers separating the two areas.

For several days, opposition fighters have been waging fierce battles against ISIS on two fronts. The first one is in Badiyat ash-Sham and the second one is in eastern Qalamoon. The point of the two battles is to bring a meeting point between the two battles and connect the two areas with each other.

The first battle was able to take control of the section allocated in the area of Mahsa (Tibat al-Mahsa), while the second battle launched its phase II and took control of the al-Mahsa junction and Abo Shamat highway and infiltrated the mountains in Badia Palmyra, reducing the distance between the two regions to less than 10 km.

These developments come hours after the opposition liberated the Snakes Mountain Range and Bi’er Plateau in the eastern Qalamoun following fierce clashes with ISIS terrorists.

ISIS terrorist group had recently taken control of several sites and strategic hills in the region of Qalamoun, after sending huge military reinforcements from the Homs eastern countryside, in an attempt to impose a siege on the opposition in the eastern Ghouta.

It is worth noting that the eastern region of Qalamoon is strategically important due to its proximity to the capital city and eastern Ghouta, and has a direct view of the Damascus-Baghdad International Highway, which links the governorates of Damascus, Homs and As-Suwayda.
