US blames Russia on targeted aid convoy near Aleppo
The United States blames Russia for the airstrike that targeted the UN aid convoy in Aleppo’s Orem al-Kubra, the White House’s deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes said on Tuesday.

Rhodes said that all the information that the US has indicates that the convoy was attacked by an airstrike, which limits the possibilities into one of two: “All of our information indicates clearly that this was an air strike. That means there only could have been two entities responsible either the ‘Syrian regime’ or the Russian government.”

Regardless of whether the perpetrators were the Russians or Assad terrorists, Rhodes held Russia responsible as it was supposed to “ground air operations in places where humanitarian assistance is flowing.”

Rhodes stressed that the US prefers that the cessation of hostilities can continue because it is the best opportunity to reduce violence and address the humanitarian needs: "We need to continue to determine whether or not the cessation of hostilities can continue. The preference is to see if it can, given that it offers right now the best opportunity to provide for an opening to reduce the violence and address humanitarian concerns.”

He added the United States’ preference to continue with the ceasefire does not eliminate its concerns about Russia’s failure to show good faith: “That doesn’t mean we’re not significantly concerned by the complete failure to demonstrate good faith in the Russian side.”

Rhodes also said that the US will see if Russia is serious about pursuing the terms of the agreement, and test if any progress is possible.
