HNC: Assad remains in power because of foreign intervention
Syrian High Negotiation Committee (HNC) has said that, Bashar Assad, the head of the regime in Syria has lost his legitimacy and his control over his territories, adding that Assad is still in power because of the intervention of foreign sides and blaming him for the violence that Syria has plunged into.

HNC expressed that through its General Coordinator, Riyad Hijab, during a meeting of the foreign ministers of countries supporting Syrian opposition in New York.

Hijab added that the solution in Syria will be achieved by executing the UN resolutions related to lifting the siege on the besieged areas in Syria, stressing the need for the international community to guarantee the execution of these resolutions.

Hijab reviewed the Syrian opposition’s vision for the future of Syria throughout a negotiation period that lays the ground to a transitional period. The transitional period starts with Bashar Assad’s stepping down, and forming a Transitional Governing Body which enjoys full powers, and ends with the final transition via local, legislative, and presidential elections.

HNC’s general coordinator explained that this vision aims at creating a new governance system which would preserve both the unity of the country and the state institutions, in addition to achieving fair representation of all Syrians.

This vision includes setting up practical mechanisms to guarantee that the Transitional Governing Body would have full executive powers to prevent any foreign intervention and expel all foreign fighters out of Syria, along with adopting an anti-terrorism program, according to Hijab.

Hijab added that opposition’s vision for the solution in Syria is to be developed according to the Syrian people’s aspirations.
