Deir ez-Zor trumpeted in Moscow
The Russian media main job is twofold: projecting Vladimir Putin as the reviver of the Soviet Empire spirit and the powerful man in the face of the West. This is exactly what the Assad media does: Assad is “the defender of the Syrian sovereignty and conqueror of the terrorist conspiracy led by the West and Israel.”

Putin’s main concern, in reality, is to be accepted by the West as any kind of power, because this has been a chronic and historical Russian complex. Putin has failed to obtain that. The West has persistently denied him such an honor, and the US did not grant him what he has been seeking unless he does some dirty work the US wanted a proxy to do. Putin did it both in Ukraine and Syria.

Putin was denied joining the coalition for fighting Daesh, but later the US must have ok’d his full military involvement in the Syrian Saga.

Lately, the US and Russia have reached an accord on Syria. Putin somehow must have believed himself that he is of real value for partying with the US in achieving something. He must have demanded more than what was allotted for him. The only way left for him is to either resort to lying or to do some mischievous things to spoil the whole game designed.

His media and that of Assad’s reported−and they are the only ones by the way−that the alliance led by the US has struck Assad military forces south of Deir ez-Zor, an action that paved the way for Daesh to further attack the Assad military forces.

At first sight, the news item is contradictory: when the alliance’s main mission is to fight Daesh, it is not consistent to say that it is paving the way for Daesh to do so and so. Second, the US Central Command says the coalition air strike south of Deir ez-Zor was halted after Russian officials said that the site might have Syrian military personnel. That is to say, the strike simply did not take place.

The Assad regime must have been informed about what has gone on between the Russians and the US central command; so they went along considering the air strike to have been carried out and reported it as if it were real. The Russian media got the story from the Assad media and reported it. This is exactly a copy of the Assad media lie about downing two Israeli jets. This one, however, was not reported by the Russian media, of course for “credibility" purposes. By the way, Russian jets were in the area!
