Assad Baathist slaughterhouse

Assad Baathist slaughterhouse
Diana Moukalled expressed her disgust to hear the word “slaughterhouse” being used to describe a horrific case of violence and killing be it against people or any other creatures. It is one of the expressions that stirs shudder in the body even if used metaphorically or symbolically. Therefore, I used to avoid using it as much as I could.

However, Facebook users won’t allow any of us to keep committed to his/her decision.

This is what happened when some friends posted a photo of an Assad officer- Issam Zahreddine – while posing before hanged bodies after he has finished maiming them. Zahreddine said in an attempt to justify his action that the two men were ISIS members.

To describe the action of this official as being a slaughter implies no exaggeration at all. However, what Zahreddine did wasn’t met with any astonishment or attention by regime’s media because it was busy promoting an alleged “massacre” committed against some civilians in a regime controlled area.

The boastful pose of Zahreddine sums up the very essence of Assad Baathist regime. In the competition between ISIS and Assad the latter proved to be winner in brutality and savageness.

This brutal and dictator regime which is unique in its barbarity was described by Syrian prominent intellectual Aziz al-Azma as a “Mamluk” regime that considers the country with its people as an exclusive property that is above any discussion. Therefore, such a regime usually finds it easy to kill, torture, slay and starve its own people.

Assad Baathist regime is an actual slaughterhouse. The world has done nothing but keep indifferent to its crimes.
