Opposition warns of escalation in Syria as Vienna talks fail
Following the failure of the Vienna meeting held between world powers over the Syrian conflict, the Syrian opposition warned again of the deteriorating security situation.

Member of the Syrian National Coalition (SNC) Samir Nashar said that the Syrian cities, particularly Aleppo, will witness “a dangerous escalation in the coming phase,” warning that the international community’s abandonment of the moderate opposition fighting groups is pushing more and more towards extremist groups.

In turn, the SNC Chief Anas al-Abdah ruled out the possibility of a transitional government in Syria to take place early August, according to what had been stated by the major powers, stating that “the lack of any positive advancements could lead to such a result.”

“If the Russians and the international community are not able to force the Assad regime to allow the passage of some humanitarian aid to our besieged people, similar to what happened in Darayya a few days ago, so how can we expect the international community to bring about a political transition?” al-Abdah stated.
