White House: Assad regime prevents humanitarian access in Syria
The Assad regime is preventing humanitarian access needed for populations caught in the crossfire of the conflict, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said on Tuesday.

"We have expressed our concerns on a variety of occasions about the tendency of the Assad regime forces to prevent convoys of humanitarian goods from moving into needed areas," Earnest said during a briefing, Kuwait News Agency reported.

"In some cases, there actually are reports of Assad forces essentially raiding those convoys for the supplies that they would like to have, or at least prevent those supplies from reaching the intended audience."

That is a source of "significant concern" and is one of the reasons the Obama administration "has worked aggressively to hold the Assad regime accountable for living up to the commitments that they made in the cessation of hostilities," he added.

This is not new to Assad; Time in 2013 reported that the Assad “regime has apparently turned to even more punitive actions to force rebellious citizens into submission: blockade-induced starvation.”
