Assad continues to play his devious UN game
In spite of all the talks about agreements between the UN and Russia regarding getting aid to the neediest civilians inside Syria’s besieged areas, the United Nations continues to be deliberately handicapped by the Assad regime.

Most recently, while the people of the long-besieged town of Daraya were gathering on the road near the town’s entrance to wait for the arrival of a convoy of UN aid, the regime was once again preparing to act out another scenario of its dirty game.

Ahmad, a member of Daraya’s local council, became the tragic game’s narrator as he described the chain of events on Skype while they were happening.

He told the story of how starving people had gathered at the entrance to his town to wait for UN trucks they had been informed would deliver aid for the first time in over three years.

As Ahmad continued to give updates on the progress of the delivery, it became increasingly more apparent that the malnourished people’s hopes were being deliberately dashed once again.

The first disappointment came when UN and Red Cross trucks arrived at the regime checkpoint at the town’s entrance around mid-day and it was discovered that the trucks were not carrying any food at all.

The only “aid” the convoy’s trucks had been allowed to carry by the regime was baby milk, medicines and vaccinations. Parents of children who have not had food to eat for days were understandably furious.

But as wrong as things had gone at this point for the desperately malnourished people, things were about to get even worse.

Ahmad said that regime soldiers at the checkpoint removed medicine off the trucks in a move that has become the norm in Syria.

Maybe they had orders from higher up to do so; maybe not.

But one thing is certain, it has happened often enough that no one was surprised --- just angry and disappointed for those who need the medications most.

A UN representative tried to act as referee by calling the Russians and trying to get them to persuade the soldiers to return the stolen items --- but to no avail.

A few hours later the convoy received orders to leave without having delivered a single item of any kind.

As physically and psychologically devastating as that was, it was not the end of the day’s events which had begun with a glimmer of hope and then went horribly wrong.

While the people were still gathered in the place they had believed they might finally receive desperately needed aid, the regime shelled the area killing two people, a father and son, and injuring five others.

It is said that hope springs eternal --- but it is hard to fathom how suffering Syrians can continue to nurture its growth in the shadow of the satanic tragedy being orchestrated under the nose of a supposedly civilized international audience.

It is an evil game that the Assad regime continues to be allowed to play --- and in the meantime the people of Daraya are still starving.

We must not forget that Daraya has also suffered from bombing by supposedly “illegal” explosive barrels that have been dropped by Assad aircraft for more than five years which has led to the destruction of more than 80% of the town and displaced thousands of its people.

Furthermore many Daraya residents have been documented as being killed or left permanently disabled by the bombings. The courageous citizens of Daraya have been hard pressed on all sides --- yet they refuse to bow down to the demon in Damascus who torments them.

All of this death and destruction, which only serves as a mirror of the much larger destruction of an entire nation, is the grand design of Bashar al Assad who has told the people who support him to be patient, for what will be left of Syria when he is through “cleansing” it will be much better for those few who remain when it is over.

And the only people he intends to leave standing in Syria are those who support him --- the only people he is referring to when he talks about ‘Syrians’. In his mind the millions of people he has forced out of their homeland, and those who remain who are not willing to recognize him as a “sovereign deity”, are simply terrorists who deserve to be starved and blown to pieces and crushed under their homes.

Since it is apparent that Assad and his unholy regime will continue playing their evil hand of not allowing aid to reach Daraya by land, activists are calling for the more than a dozen countries which have aircraft flying in Syrian airspace, including the US and the UK, to begin delivering crucial aid through airdrops before it’s too late for the men, women and children Assad is deliberately starving to death as part of his ethnic “cleansing” campaign that is more of a game to the Butcher of Damascus.
