Rift between Tehran and Assad about war strategy in Syria
While Iran went on burying its killed soldiers, the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei started a comfort campaign to relief the angry public opinion.

Four delegations that were appointed by Khamenei started a series of visits to the cities which have received the killed during the last two weeks. The delegations conveyed Khamenei’s condolences and promises of support.

The losses created the first indications to disagreements between Tehran, Assad regime and Moscow in terms of the strategy to win the war on Syria.

Military analyst Hamid Zumrudi said that "Iran received its biggest human losses since first Gulf War that ended in 1988."

Iranian cyberspace has changed into a debate arena and Internet users are questioning the reasons behind these losses. Iranian media echoed this debate. In this concern, Kayhan published an article accusing Assad of being responsible for these losses. The article said that Assad’s “fault” means that relations between Moscow and Tehran are tense. Kayhan added that “Iran refused the ceasefire agreement from the very beginning” and the reason behind the Iranian rejection lies in the idea that the US is trying to lower the pace of the military operations or even stop them completely.

The article also claimed that the ceasefire agreement enabled Al-Nusra Front and Jaysh Al-Fatth to attack and recapture many strategic towns.

The article in Kayhan also says that part of the Al-Nusra’s victory was due to Al-Nusra’s use of TWO missiles. However, this claim reveals that Iranian forces including “Karbala 25 Brigade” and “Green Berets” as well as “Fatimyoun” which includes Pakistani and Afghani volunteers were using tanks in a defensive mood. This proves that Iran’s continuous pretension that its soldiers are involved in Syria as counselors only is baseless.

Moreover, news reports by news agencies affiliated with Revolutionary Guards say that many Iranian soldiers died in Khan Toman in gorilla war with opposition fighters.

A news website known by its close ties to the Revolutionary Guards published a detailed analysis in which it criticized Assad and his assistants. The report asked: “why do the best trained Assad forces hide behind the justification of the ceasefire agreement brokered by Russia and the US in order not to offer any assistance to Iran and its soldiers?”

The report particularly criticized the Fourth Brigade led by Maher Assad for being away from conflict zones. The news agency added that this brigade has hundreds of the best tanks and other military equipment which were kept unmoved.
