Will my dream to meet Swedish king come true?
“I could not go to school in my city, Aleppo, because my teacher was shot dead before my eyes. My brother was also in the school. Many of my friends saw what happened. Those moments broke our hearts. Nothing could obliterate the memory of those tragic events”.

With theseI ha words, Ahmad tried to illustrate a piece of what he endured in Aleppo to the Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf.

The 12 year-old Syrian boy wrote a lengthy letter, with the help of the social services official Boja Sherefi in the hopes of meeting the Swedish King to inform him about everything that he had witnessed in Syria and the long perilous journey he made to reach Sweden.

Ahmad reached Sweden in September 2015 with his family. He was one of 163 thousand asylum-seekers who were welcomed into the country last year.

Ahmad is currently residing in the city of Malmo, in the southwestern part of Sweden, and he is attending in one of its schools.

In his interview with the Swedish Radio, Ahmad said that he had high hopes of meeting the king, describing him as a generous person who loves kids. He stated that he just wants to tell him his story.

Ahmad does not know anything about the king except his name Gustaf. He is 69 year old. Ahmad says that he has always dreamed of meeting a king.

Ahmad has not yet received a response to the sent letter dated Feb. 2, 2016. Meanwhile, his school established a Facebook page titled, “A Letter to the King,” in an attempt to support Ahmad’s dream of meeting the King.

Director of public relations at the Royal Palace Margret Thorgren told Expressen Newspaper that the letters sent to the royal families are dealt with according to a specific schedule without ruling out the possibility of the King paying Ahmad’s school a visit.
