The Lebanese parliament failed again on Sunday and for the 34th time in a row to elect a president to replace Michel Suleiman whose term ended on May 25, 2014, al-Monitor reported.
As in the past sessions the parliament was unable to reach a quorum because the Iranian-backed Hezbollah and its ally MP Michel Aoun boycotted the session.
Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, a key ally of Hezbollah, postponed the election to February 8, 2016, Ya Libnan reported .
Lebanon has been without president since May 2014, after former President Michel Suleiman’s term ended without the election of a successor due to the ongoing disputes between the March 8 and 14 Camps over a compromise candidate.
March 14 party favors the Lebanese Forces leader, Samir Geagea, while Iran-backed March 8 party supports the Free Patriotic Movement leader, MP Michel Aoun.
