Syrian National Army controls Syria's Ras al-Ayn
Syrian National Army (SNA) liberated Ras al-Ayn town center from the People's Protection Units (YPG) militiamen as part of Operation Peace Spring, security sources and Turkish Defense Ministry said Saturday (October 12).

"Ras al-Ayn's residential center has been taken under control through the successful operations in the east of the Euphrates (River)," the Defense Ministry said.

Earlier on Saturday, SNA cut a road connecting Syrian towns along a section of the Syrian Turkish border.

The road is one of the major supply routes used by the terrorist PKK-linked People's Protection Units (YPG).

Youssef Hammoud, spokesman for the National Army, said fighters had cut the 712 road that links Tal Abyad and Ras al-Ayn - the focal points of the Turkish operation that began on Wednesday.

The road hugs the border in some places and in others extends a number of kilometers into Syria.

Anadolu news agency said Saturday the forces have arrived at the M-4 highway that connects the Syrian towns of Manbij and Qamishli. The road is about 30 kilometers (19 miles) south of the Turkish border.

"This advance was on a new and surprise front between Tal Abyad and Ras al-Ayn. On this front, they were able to cut the roads linking together Suluk, Tal Abyad, Ras al-Ayn with the villages in the area," he said in a statement to Reuters.

He said 18 villages had been captured in the advance.

Turkey launched Operation Peace Spring on October 9, the third in a series of cross-border anti-terror operations in northern Syria targeting terrorists affiliated with ISIS and the PKK's Syrian offshoot the People's Protection Units (YPG).
