An explosion was caused by a car bomb where at least 13 people were killed and many others were injured; the reason behind the second explosion is still unknown.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Afrin is controlled by the Free Syrian Army backed by the Turkish Military, it was captured from the PKK-affiliated YPG militia after launching the Operation Olive Branch.
Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan said on (March 18), 2018 the centre of Afrin was "entirely under control" and Turkish and Syrian Revolution flags were raised in the northern Syrian city.
