Japan beefs up security ahead of G20 leaders' summit
Osaka tightened its security near the G20 meeting venue and parts of its downtown core on Thursday (June 27), as Japan's third largest city gets ready to host the annual leader summit this week.

Concerns over trade, conflict and oil will dominate the summit this weekend as all eyes are set on a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday (June 29) that might pave the way to resolving a trade dispute between the world's two biggest economies.

Trump and Xi will meet for the first time in seven months to discuss deteriorating ties between their economies. However, prospects of progress look slim, as neither side has given ground after talks broke down in May.

Many G20 members have a stake in this outcome as the row has disrupted global supply chains, slowed world growth as well as stirred expectations of interest rate cuts and other stimulus measures by central banks.
