Several demonstrations have been forbidden in various French big cities such as Avignon and Rouen to prevent against surges of violence.
In Paris, protesters were not allowed to demonstrate on the Champs Elysees avenue, which has often been the theatre of looting and breakage. Instead, they began their march at different strategic points in the city and gathered at Trocadero at the end of the afternoon.
Although demonstrations were mostly quiet and calm during the day, scaffolds between police and a few protesters erupted at the end of the demonstration in front of the Eiffel Tower.
French President Emmanuel Macron gave priority early in his presidency to pro-business tax cuts over measures to help low-income workers, and that angered left-leaning voters.
The anti-government protests have shown the French crave less inequality, between Paris and the poorest parts of the country as much as between the poor and the rich in general.
