At least sixteen people were killed on Saturday (March 16) by a landmine as they were collecting mushrooms (Kama) in Deir ez-Zoor desert.
Local sources said that the sixteen people lost their lives as they drove over a landmine in the Shawla desert, most of the victims came from Shamtiyyeh town in Deir ez-Zoor countryside.
Footage posted online showed the bodies of the victims in the aftermath of the explosion.
Kama mushroom is heavily consumed by rich families in Syria. The harvest grows if lightning storms take place in the open fields of Deir ez-Zoor and the Syrian Desert.
