The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that the IDF was responsible for the attack in Syria early Saturday morning, according to the Jerusalem Post.

"Only in the last 36 hours did the air force strike targets in Syria and we have proven that we will not stop the settlement of Iran in Syria." Netanyahu said.

The Assad state news agency said Israeli warplanes fired a number of missiles toward the Damascus area on Friday (January 11), triggering Assad air defences that shot down most of them.

Reuters footage showed an explosion lighting up the sky above the Syrian capital.
