US embassy gunshots suspects arrested in Turkey’s Ankara
Three suspects were arrested Saturday (Sep 1) in connection to an August 20 drive-by shooting outside the US embassy in Ankara, Anadolu Agency reported.

The three were part of a group of six referred to an Ankara court Saturday for the attack. The three arrested are charged with actually performing the shooting. The other three were released under court supervision.

Shots were fired embassy in Ankara from a moving car early on August 20. Three of the six bullets hit the embassy gate and a reinforced window. No one was injured

The regional governor’s office said two of those arrested were detained the day of the shooting and confessed. Police later detained the other four suspects.

It identified them as Ahmet Çeliktan and Osman Gündaş. They were placed in a high security prison with the third suspect, Ersin Bayram.

The incident came in the midst of an escalating diplomatic and trade row between Ankara and Washington regarding the detention in Turkey of  "terror-linked" US pastor Andrew Craig Brunson.

The NATO allies have slapped tariffs on each other’s imports as well as imposed sanctions on cabinet ministers.
