Turkish, American defense ministers discuss Syria over phone

Turkish National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar and US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis spoke over the phone late Monday (August 28), a Defense Ministry source told Anadolu Agency.

Akar and Mattis exchanged views on the Turkey-US defense relations, Syria and the fight against terrorism, the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, said.

Earlier this month, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, accompanied by National Intelligence Organization (MİT) Undersecretary Hakan Fidan discussed Syria and other cooperation issues in meetings with The Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu in Moscow.
