Drone tries to reach Khmeimim airbase
Russian military has downed a drone targeting the Khmeimim air base in Syria, Russian news agencies reported on Thursday (August 9).

The drone, launched from territory controlled by Syrian opposition, was detected, RIA reported.

"On August 9, airspace control equipment of Russia’s air base detected an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), launched from a territory in the north of the Lattakia governorate. The aerial target was shot down by air defense systems at a distance from the air base,", Maj. Gen. Alexei Tsygankov told TASS.

"There was no injuries or damage. Russia’s Khmeimim air base operates as normal," he added.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attempted attack.

According to earlier reports, Russia disabled more than 25 drones last month, heading toward the Khmeimim air base.
