Dozens of Iraqis took to the streets in Basra in the south of Iraq on Sunday (July 29) to protest against the lack of proper regime services and jobs.
Local media reports said the protests took place near the oil field of Barjesiyya to the west of the city.
About 2,000 people gathered outside the headquarters of the provincial governorate on Friday.
Protests were also held in the southern cities of Amara and Nasiriya.
Demonstrations over the same issues have occurred in the past but the recent unrest has been more widespread.
Tensions over basic services come at a sensitive time when Iraqi political blocs are attempting to form a coalition after a May 12 parliamentary election tainted by allegations of fraud.
