ISIS was responsible for an attack outside Britain’s parliament which left four people dead, the terrorist group’s Amaq news agency said on Thursday (March 23).
"The perpetrator of the attacks yesterday in front of the British parliament in London is an ISIS soldier and he carried out the operation in response to calls to target citizens of the coalition," the Amaq statement said.
ISIS, which has controlled parts of Iraq and Syria in recent years, has lost territory this year to Syrian opposition fighters and Shia militias in those countries supported by Turkish and a US-led military coalition.
The statement was initially circulated on the messaging app Telegram and was then later shared on social media. A number of different journalists also circulated different versions of the claim in English, French and German.
