Assad regime will not take part in next Arab Summit, says Arab League Secretary-General
Due to the current situation, Assad regime will not take part in the coming Arab Summit scheduled on 29 March in the Jordanian capital Amman, the Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit said on Tuesday.

Speaking at a press conference following a ministerial meeting of the Arab League Council held on Tuesday in Cairo, Aboul Gheit added that the subject would take “some time” for reaching a decision, referring to Syria’s membership in the Arab League.

On a similar subject, the Baghdad foreign minister, Ibrahim Al-Jaafari, has recently demanded re-considering the decision of freezing Assad regime’s seat in the Arab League.

Arab foreign ministers gathered for the Arab League’s annual meeting which was held in Cairo on Tuesday, in preparation for the upcoming Arab summit in Jordan. The meeting addressed security in the region.

According to Anadolu Agency, the meeting was attended by only 14 foreign ministers, with those from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Yemen and Somalia all declining to attend.
