Opposition groups were able on Tuesday (March 7) to foil another attempt by Iranian militias aimed at occupying new territories west of Aleppo, a second attempt in less than a week.
Orient correspondent Ibrahim al-Khatib said that “opposition groups foiled a new attempt by Shiite Iranian militias aimed at occupying al-Bhooth al-Elmya area west of Aleppo city, in addition to four other areas north of the city.”
Dozens of Iranian militants were killed during the clashes that went on for hours amidst continued Assad regime shelling of the area, al-Khatib reported.
This was the second time in less than a week in which opposition fighters were able to prevent Iranian militias from occupying areas west of Aleppo.
Iranian militias continue to attempt to occupy more lands despite an announced ceasefire truce across Syria, which the Shiite militias have breached dozens of times in different areas across the country.
