2 civilians killed in Homs’ al-Waer as Assad bombing continues

Assad warplanes conducted on Monday new airstrikes on the besieged neighborhood of al-Waer, killing and injuring a number of civilians.

Heavy airstrikes by Assad fighter jets hit residential areas in Homs’ al-Waer neighborhood, which claimed the lives of two civilians and injured at least 17 others, including two women, Orient News correspondent Saifullah al-Ahmad said. The aerial attacks heavily damaged civilians’ homes, he added. The declared death toll is initial and might increase as there were many critical cases.

A committee formed from residents form al-Waer is heading today to meet a Russian delegation near the automated bakery checkpoint on the outskirts of the neighborhood, Saifullah said. The meeting aims to discuss ways to de-escalate attacks on the besieged neighborhood.

Residents of al-Waer neighborhood suffer from dire living conditions as a result of medicines, medical items, and food stuffs shortages, in addition to the scarcity of fuels. The shortages are caused by the crippling siege laid on civilians in al-Waer by Assad regime, which fully control all other neighborhoods in Homs.

Civil society bodies had declared al-Waer a disaster-stricken area after the escalation of shelling and bombardment by Assad terrorists, which started last month and caused the death of 60 civilians and injured scores.
