Opposition fighters repelled on Friday an attack by Iran-backed militias, the fiercest since the occupation of Aleppo, on areas west of the city.
Dozens of Iran-backed Shiite militias were killed as opposition fighters repelled their attack on the areas of Jabal Ma’ara, Shweihna, al-Rashideen al-Shimaliya, and al-Jazira, west of Aleppo, Orient News correspondent Ibrahim al-Khatib said.
The attempt to make advances by the Iran-backed militias come despite the declared ceasefire which took effect on December 30.
The complete occupation of liberated Aleppo took place on December 20, 2016 after Iran-backed militias and Assad regime backed by Russian air power launched a brutal aggression against the besieged eastern districts of the city. The aggression killed and injured hundreds of civilians and destroyed most of the districts’ hospitals, schools and infrastructure.
