French reactor explosion with no sign of radiation leak
An explosion in Flamanville’s nuclear power plant in France caused the state-backed EDF to shut down its reactor on Thursday.

Five people were injured after a fire erupted in the machine room of the nuclear power plant on France’s northern coast. Authorities said that the incident ended with no deaths or risk of radioactive contamination. The explosion occurred outside the nuclear zone according to Olivier Marmion, director of the prefect’s office.

Marmion said it is a significant technical event not a nuclear one to the French news agency AFP.

EDF Group, the world’s biggest electricity generator, operates 78 nuclear reactors worldwide, 58 of them are in France.
