Iran plays with fire launching new missile exercise
In a step that can further exacerbate tension with the nascent Trump administration, Iran conducts a surface-to-air (SAM) missile exercise on Wednesday, a US official says.

“The new missile was launched from the same base which Iran used in its previous failed exercise to launch medium-range ballistic missile earlier this month” the US official told CNN.

Michael Flynn, the US national security adviser, said that Washington warned Tehran after the last exercise. While president Trump tweeted that Iran is playing with fire.

The US official said that the Wednesday exercise was in memory of the “Islamic Revolution” of 1979. “We are monitoring the Iranian military developments carefully,” he added.

The tension between Iran and Washington has increased since Trump’s inauguration. Trump said in a series of tweets on Friday that Iranians “don’t appreciate how kind President Obama was to them,” emphasizing that he won’t be like his predecessor. He also described Iran as “the number one terrorist state” in the world.

The US Department of Treasury announced last week new sanctions against 13 Iranians and 12 entities thought to be having links with the ballistic missile program, in addition to supporting what it describes as terrorist acts. The sanctions include freezing assets and banning transactions with US citizens.

On the other hand, the Supreme Leader of Iran Ali Khamenei denounced the threats of the US president saying it does not scare Iran. Trump’s policies exposed the true face of the United States and for that, they owe him a thank you, Khamenei said during a meeting with air force officers in the army.
