An Assad warplane was shot down Sunday night in the surroundings of Aleppo city, while its crew was reported killed as well.
An L-39 warplane was shot at near al-Bab city, northeast of Aleppo, while it was conducting airstrikes on some towns and villages in opposition-held Aleppo countryside, activists said. The targeting led to the plane’s crash near al-Nairab military airport.
The pilot of the plane, Bassil Saleh, was killed, according to pro-Assad social media accounts, which published the pilot’s photo, announcing his death.
There were conflicting reports about the side which targeted the warplane, but pro-Assad social media accounts claimed it crashed because of a ‘technical failure’.
