Turkish airstrikes destroy ISIS targets in northern Syria
Turkish warplanes destroyed 24 ISIS targets in northern Syria on Monday (January 30), the Turkish military said in a statement on Tuesday (January 31).

The airstrikes carried out in Syria’s al-Bab, Tadef and Bza’ targeted 20 buildings, 4 garages and two firing positions, the statement said.

The military released footage showing a target being hit in al-Bab, a ISIS-held city.

In a separate incident, the military said a Turkish soldier was killed in clashes with ISIS terrorists near al-Bab on Sunday.

Syrian opposition, backed by Turkish special forces, tanks and warplanes, have been besieging al-Bab since December.

Turkey has repeatedly said it is close to taking al-Bab, although troops have been bogged down in street battles with ISIS, slowing progress.

NATO member Turkey launched the operation into Syria, dubbed "Euphrates Shield", more than four months ago to drive ISIS away from its border.

With Euphrates Shield, Turkey also aims to prevent the Kurdish YPG militia from joining up cantons it already controls along the Turkish border, fearing that would embolden Kurdish separatism inside Turkey.
