Assad fighter jets carried out Monday airstrikes on al-Rastan city in Homs northern countryside.

Two thermobaric (vacuum) bombs were dropped on residential areas in al-Rastan city, leaving a number of civilians injured, Orient News correspondent Saifullah al-Ahmad reported.

The attacks come as the declared ceasefire is still in effect.

A countrywide ceasefire in Syria was declared on Thursday (29 December 2016), after Turkey, Russia and opposition fighting groups reached a deal in the Turkish capital Ankara. Assad regime, Shiite allies did not abide by the deal committing many violations. To consolidate the ceasefire, opposition fighters attended talks with Assad regime representatives in the Kazakh capital Astana on January 23-24. The outcome of the talks was to find a joint mechanism to implement the ceasefire across Syria.
