Hezbollah, Assad attack Wadi Barada despite local ceasefire
Hezbollah and Assad regime escalated their attacks on the Wadi Barada valley in total disregard to the local ceasefire reached on Thursday.

The Media Committee of Wadi Barada said multiple airstrikes hit the town of Ein al-Fijeh. The Strikes killed a member of the local medical committee and one opposition fighter. The heads of the medical and media committees in Wadi Barada were also injured in the attacks.

Moreover, an ambulance carrying wounded individuals was destroyed after it was hit by Hezbollah and Assad regime’s artillery shelling.

The escalation comes after attempts earlier on Friday by the terrorist group Hezbollah and Assad regime to seize the towns of Ein al-Fijeh and Deir Moqrin. The two towns were also hit with artillery shelling and FIL missiles.

The new wave of attacks started hours after a local ceasefire agreement was reached on Thursday. The deal was mediated by a German envoy from the International Red Cross and stipulated the end of attacks on Wadi Barada. The deal also included allowing maintenance teams safe passage to do necessary repairs to the Ein al-Fijeh spring facility that was damaged by Hezbollah and Assad’s bombardment.

The Wadi Barada valley, located 18 kilometers northwest of Damascus, has been under heavy bombing and artillery shelling by Hezbollah and Assad regime for the past 30 days. The attacks killed many civilians and caused widespread damage to property, including the vital Ein Al-Fijeh spring facility which provides over four million people in Damascus and its countryside with water.
