Russian warplanes sent to Syria despite downsizing claims
Four elite Russian Su-25 fighter jets and another four IL-78 tankers arrived Monday (January 10) at the Hmeimim airbase south of the coastal Latakia province, pro-Assad media reported.

The said Russian Su-25 fighter jets will be used to support Assad regime, which Russia has been backing militarily for over a year.

Activists have published video footage of these planes flying in northern Syria. The warplanes flew over Hama northern countryside and Idlib southern countryside without conducting any airstrikes, activists said.

This comes among continuous violations to the declared ceasefire in Syria by Assad regime and its ally, Russia. Despite being a guarantor country, Russia has been helping Assad regime in bombing civilians in the opposition-held areas in Hama, Homs, Idlib and Aleppo countryside.
