US Secretary of Defense Ash Carter said Sunday that Russia has done nothing in the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
“They haven’t done anything,” Carter told NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
Carter said Russia’s efforts in the war against ISIS are “virtually zero.”
Russia began its military intervention in Syria in September, 2015. Since then, Russia has aided the Assad regime with airstrikes targeting civilians and destroying hospitals and schools.
“They came in, they said they were going to fight ISIL, and they said they were going to help in the civil war in Syria,” Carter said.
“They haven’t done either of those things. As a consequence of course, we’re fighting ISIL ourselves.”
