ISIS claims responsibility for Istanbul New Year deadly attack
ISIS claimed Monday responsibility for the New Year’s shooting at an Istanbul nightclub which killed 39, according to a statement it published on social media.

The terrorist group made the claim in a statement on one of its Telegram channels, a method it has used to claim attacks in the past. The gunman is still on the run.

The shooting took place at the Reina nightclub on the shores of Istanbul’s Bosphorus waterway. Turkish officials said nationals of Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Lebanon, Libya, Israel, India, a Turkish-Belgian dual citizen and a Franco-Tunisian woman were among the victims.

In 2016, Turkey endured a failed July coup attempt in addition to multiple terrorist attacks, including three in Istanbul. Some of the attacks were claimed by a Kurdish PKK-affiliate while the rest were blamed on ISIS by the Turkish authorities.
